The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

Actors perform well, with Jennifer Lawrence carrying the majority of scenes and a great crew of new mainstays to add to the talent pool. In interviews, Sutherland has equated the younger generation with leftists and Occupiers. Katniss stands about ten feet away from Cato as he snaps a boys neck and we are supposed to believe he doesn't see her? If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed spending two hours with some of my favorite characters. In The Hunger Games, author Suzanne Collins has created a fascinating.

However, so much from there fell short. But has been better, in Japanese. For an action movie it feels like days go by before there is any real action. Prim Everdeen is the one person that Katniss loves above all others. Hope the sequels are as good as this.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 Review

We find out that the districts attempted to overthrow the capital, but they were defeated, resulting in the destruction of District 13. There have been a number of big-gun literary series brought to screen over the past decade. The book has a bit of a dark tone to it, it's very futuristic, and a bit depressing at times. Mockingjay-Part 1 centers around propaganda in wartime as we watch the Capitol utilize media against the rebellion and vise-versa. The main character is brave, wise, and rather selfless, but I hesitate to call her a role model because she is forced to kill and maim.

The Hunger Games, Book 1 Book Review

The books were excellent, and I think, much like the Harry Potter series, has been given a bad rap by people who have not read it, simply for the subject matter. And Katniss knows that now her survival will mean his death. This movie is such a complete and utter rip-off of Battle Royale, a real cult classic from Japan. It is really annoying, and so unnecessary: it is not making anything more real. Violence is cryptically described, but over-imaginative readers may be frightened at what their brain conjures up.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Her death struck a chord with Katniss, an entire district and me. Those living in the wealthy Capitol have so little in common with the destitute people from the Districts that they regard the deaths of District children as entertainment. This was one of the best films of 2012, and I cannot wait for the sequels to come out, although I am a little upset that they're splitting Mockingjay into two films! Gale for instance, you get no real sense of how deeply his and Katniss' connection runs, or why. She would not be able to survive the reaping and Katniss knows this. I am currently teaching it to my 7th grade class. Obviously, with 24 tributes, not to mention a number of non-Games side characters, it would be hard to get to know everyone a lot of the kids are throwaways in the book ; however, as a film as opposed to a book - where Katniss is limited to first person , the experience could have benefited from a bit more time spent with a few other tributes - so that as they attempt to slaughter or help Katniss, they'd have more impact than just the immediate onscreen action. Both my 9 year old and 11 year old read the entire series as did I, while there is of course, violence, as the Games are violent, I never, ever felt like there was violence simply for the sake of violence.

The Hunger Games

A meaningful, exciting, heart wrenching story. Poor people often need tesserae to survive, so the children of the poor end up having their names entered numerous times. They don't really know anybody but Kat, Donald Sutherland gives some meaningless scornful look, and walks off and the credits roll. But to be fair, it wasn't meant to be. At this point in the franchise, audiences are either onboard for the ride or have long-since decided to disembark. Katniss is about 16 years old, so my child will be 14 when i allow her to read this series.

Okay, they hobble off after way too long, and then find a cave where it takes way too long for them to get things going. Each year, as a punishment for the failed rebellion by District 13, the 12 Panem Districts are forced to pay tribute to the ruthless Capitol regime. What follows is a series of events that will put Katniss in the spotlight both as a source of hope for the oppressed and as an enemy of the Capitol. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. I refer you to our original for a complete list of supplements included on that original release. I have much respect for People who write books.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, Book 1) Book Review and Ratings by Kids

The Capitol's exploitation of the Districts is supposed to be the backdrop for the entire story. Even luxury is portrayed as almost oppressive — gluttonous and requiring constant effort. I've read all the books, and I thought they were okay, but not really worth all the hype. My child just read this book in the 6th grade. Something that might lead them to get punished by the capitol for pretending.

The Hunger Games Book 1 Summary

hunger games 1 review

This book is not for pre-teens. Katniss knows that it is not only her own life on the line in the games, but that others will benefit as well if she is the victor and her skills as a hunter will give her an edge in the Games. Battle Royale so far outshines this piece of Hollywood garbage. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. What you need to consider is your child's maturity and perception on difficult situations. Having escaped — or, in this case, been rescued from — the Games for a second time, Katniss Everdeen finds herself at the center of a rebellion against the Capital. Is it because the market for teen bought books and movies is strong? She gets stung a few times, and conveniently kills a girl with the bow and arrows, which just so happens she's an expert with.

The Hunger Games, Book 1 Book Review

There is a romantic undertone present in the central relationships, but one thing is entirely clear: This is not about teenagers — or ancient vampires - who are feeling angst ridden and put upon by the weighty burden of luuuurve. We have only affordable prices for you, and we offer a quality service. Injuries are realistic, including burn blistering, blood poisoning, and gangrene. After reading some of the death scenes I was shaken for days. The Capitol defeated the districts, with the thirteenth being so badly destroyed that it ceased to exist.
